Light guns are a cool concept, they are controls for older game consoles in the shape of a gun, that when aimed at a TV screen allowed the player to play shooter games. The problem like the Bill Gates missqout above the makers of such devices made an assumption that we would allays use CRT televisions ( the old fat televisions that we are now trying to get rie of) for playing video games.
There is no work around for this as the light guns look for the "brushes" that paint the CRT screen and ignore the "paint trale" they leave behind. Based on the diffence in time between a white refersh and the time you pulled the trigger(in milliseconds) you can detime where the gun was fired.
While the NES, SNES and Sega Genesis assumed the end user was using a CRT, Nintendo thought ahead a bit and created the sensor bar for aming the Wiimote, the soreness bar has LEDs on it and beacuse you are aiming at a peice of hardware which will never change, it TV type independent.
While it's important not to make assumptions, it is impossible to know what future tech might look like or work like and so people do have to make relative assumptions when programming but assuming we will allays have the same kind of TV is kind of silly, espessly today.

Re: the link
The link I put on my blog last week was a "public service annonment" in discuse. Those who clicked the link got to a nice page on my own website, that pointed out that although the site was safe, you did not know where it took you or how safe the site is. Most of the regulars checked out the site and I hope they got the message.
On an unrelated note, 64.201.63.14 in Acton has visited my site, thank you for stopping by.

Do word documents move "up" or "down
A none-technical person was helping me proofread a document today and it got me thinking, they asked me to "move the page up" and my instinict was to scroll up which is the opposite direction they where thinking. It made me want to right this post. The questtion is do scroble things like word documents(and web pages) move "up" or "down". I allays though they move "down" because the scrolling thing on the right-hand side of the page moves down and that is the way you read(in this country at least). The key on the keyboard that does the same thing is scrolling down is called "page down" so I guess that makes the pages "move down", right? Wrong! When you think about it, like I did, the words on the page move up when you scroll down and move down when you scroll up,interesting, huh?
Well I will try and remember that next time someone tells me to move the page up.

Sleeping Power Suckers
Last night I had to leave my power bars on so I could image my old laptop(which is still going by the way), I then I had to turn off my vampireistic KVM switch which sucks the blood of whatever USB port it can find!
The lighs boverd me and to unplug it I had to turn off all the "Sleeping Power Suckers", I have 2 of them. Yep, both my old Mac and my old Compaq give power to the USB ports when the machine is off but the power cord is connected to the machine and never of them have "I/O"switches. My Energer Star complient desktop does not do this. Thinking about it today the old Mac has an excuse, although it has an older Apple bus, I bet it could still boot if I hooked up a Mac keyboard with a power button, these old Macs needed a keyboard plugged in too boot for the power button is on the keyboard.(weird eh :) )
The point is one should be aware of how much elexticy one is using when their computer is off.
