Light guns are a cool concept, they are controls for older game consoles in the shape of a gun, that when aimed at a TV screen allowed the player to play shooter games. The problem like the Bill Gates missqout above the makers of such devices made an assumption that we would allays use CRT televisions ( the old fat televisions that we are now trying to get rie of) for playing video games.
There is no work around for this as the light guns look for the "brushes" that paint the CRT screen and ignore the "paint trale" they leave behind. Based on the diffence in time between a white refersh and the time you pulled the trigger(in milliseconds) you can detime where the gun was fired.
While the NES, SNES and Sega Genesis assumed the end user was using a CRT, Nintendo thought ahead a bit and created the sensor bar for aming the Wiimote, the soreness bar has LEDs on it and beacuse you are aiming at a peice of hardware which will never change, it TV type independent.
While it's important not to make assumptions, it is impossible to know what future tech might look like or work like and so people do have to make relative assumptions when programming but assuming we will allays have the same kind of TV is kind of silly, espessly today.
