OTAM Januray

Hi:
A lot of my friends(not Facebook "friends")  know that I love the library, so it's time to publicly state that "that thrilling place"(in the December post) was the library! The library quoted R. David Lankes* who wrote on Twitter: "Bad libraries build collections, good libraries build services, great libraries build communities. ". If my library believes this then it's no wonder I find it thrilling, communities are one of the things  I seek!

Now onto OTAM:

Thrill:

  • The Library's Winter Reading Challenge -  You get a bingo challenge card and each time you complete an objective, you get your name in the prize draw. You also get 3 entries for completing a "row" in any direction. You can see the adult one on their Instagram here. Some of the things are easy for me, like following the library on social media. You also get a "freebie" for picking up the card! They were a lot of things I learned along the way, like that the library has an online magazine service, audio streaming service and ebook service. Also, you can grab a magazine and go relax by the library's fireplace, you can buy a hot drink for a couple bucks to make it even more relaxing! Doing this gets you two stamps and entries! Challenge is still running so get your challenge card today :).
Teach:

  • Starting working with RESTfual API's - there are online service's programmers can tape into to utilize them. I have written a sample program that others can tap into(you can only access it at my house). I will be trying to tap into someone else's API this month. (I know mine works, it's now more fun to try someone else). On upcoming jobs, I may be doing this.
Other noteworthy things:
  • I and a friend went to VR(virtual reality) at the beginning of the month, it was fun but was not that thrilling mainly due to technical issues. (probably due to our hight** and it not being calibrated for that). We tried "Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes" and it took us 4 or so tries before we finally solved one. It is fun though :).
  • I tried some Japanese food and it was good. Some of I had seen before in the card game "Sushi Go".
  • I bought an open hard drive to USB adapter at the thrift store and the power supply will be coming soon.(had to buy it online)

*R. David Lankes: https://davidlankes.org. Not sure how "noteworthy" he is but he seems to know what he is talking about.

** The good news is there are now aware of this and it will probably be better next time. If we want to do Keep Talking again, I think we can do that game sitting.
